From a 16 MW solar array to research stations spanning over 3 km² of agricultural land, the University of Jordan embeds sustainability into every dimension of campus life.
Flagship Initiative · Renewable Energy
The renewable energy programme extends to UJ's Aqaba branch, where solar installations span rooftops, car parks, and open ground — including a ground-mounted system at the Marine Science Station on the Red Sea coast. The branch demonstrates multiple PV integration methods: Building-Integrated PV (BIPV) on facades, shaded car park canopy structures, and ground-mounted arrays — each adapted to the site's conditions and purpose.
What This Means · In Plain Terms
A three-tiered approach — energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable integration — is being applied across all 125 campus buildings to reduce operational carbon and improve performance
The University of Jordan supports inclusion through a dedicated Disability Support Office that coordinates services, accommodations, and assistance for students with disabilities. The campus is designed to be accessible, with ramps, elevators, adapted restrooms, and safe pathways that facilitate mobility across university facilities. In addition, students with disabilities may receive up to 90% fee discounts, early registration, Braille and audio materials, note-taking assistance, assistive software, sign language interpretation, exam accommodations, and library support, helping to ensure an inclusive and accessible campus environment.
Services are delivered by a specialised team holding academic degrees in special education, computer science, and sociology, with accredited sign language interpreters on staff.
UJ provides comprehensive on-campus healthcare through its university hospital and student clinic, offering medical consultations, emergency care, vaccinations, and routine checkups. Regular health education campaigns and awareness programs promote disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, and overall physical well-being for both students and staff. Students have access to a fully equipped clinic on campus, and if necessary, they are referred to the University Hospital, which is also located on campus. As for Staff, they are covered by comprehensive insurance at the University Hospital and can visit any clinic.
The Health Care Department provides medical treatments, x-rays, laboratory tests, and a pharmacy to students — with cases requiring follow-up transferred to the University Hospital.
UJ provides psychological counselling, mental health awareness, and crisis support for both students and staff — with all awareness activities free to attend.
On-campus dental clinic and pharmacy providing accessible and affordable healthcare services, staffed by qualified professionals from the university's health sciences faculties.
UJ operates a main restaurant and cafeteria with diverse, subsidised meal options — and supplies fresh produce directly from its own agricultural stations and dairy unit.
UJ offers reproductive health-care services through its university hospital, student clinic, and the Youth Clinic at the School of Nursing — with educational programmes covering family planning, women's health, and STI prevention.
State-of-the-art sports facilities, athletics programmes, and wellness initiatives that encourage active lifestyles and promote physical health for the entire university community.
A dedicated fleet of campus buses connects students across faculties, sports facilities, and student housing — ensuring reliable, scheduled access to every corner of the university
To facilitate students' access to their classrooms, the University of Jordan operates a dedicated fleet of buses, each accommodating 22 passengers across two routes that serve the full breadth of the campus.
